Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  • Fork
  • Small bowl
  • Reamer or citrus juicer (for obtaining lime juice)
  • Toasters or toaster oven
  • Optional: A kettle or frying pan for poaching eggs

Ingredients

  • 1 Ripe avocado
  • 2 Slices of whole-grain bread
  • 1 Small lime for juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Optional garnishes:

  • Red onion finely cut, cherry tomatoes, and
  • Fresh basil or cilantro leaves
  • Feta cheese in crumbles
  • Poached or fried eggs

Instructions

Step 1: Avocado preparation

  • Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, then scoop out the pit. With a spoon, remove the flesh and put it in a bowl. The avocado should be mashed with a fork to the desired consistency. Lightly mash it for a chunky texture, or thoroughly mash it for a smooth one.

Step 2: Seasoning the Avocado

  • To give the mashed avocado a tart, refreshing flavor, squeeze the juice of half a lime over it. To taste, add salt and pepper to the food. To ensure that all the tastes are dispersed equally, give it a good mixing.

Step 3: Toasting the Bread

  • Toast your preferred slices of whole-grain bread until they are crisp and brown. Avocado toast on whole-grain bread has a delicious nuttiness and more fiber.

Step 4: Putting the Avocado Toast Together

  • Each piece of toasted bread should have a good layer of the seasoned avocado mash on it. Spread it evenly with the back of a spoon. You can keep it as is or get inventive by adding different toppings.

Step 5: Adding Optional Toppings

  • The enjoyable part will now begin: adding toppings! There are countless possibilities, but these are a few to get you going:
  • Sliced cherry tomatoes give the dish an explosion of freshness and color.
  • Red onions that have been thinly sliced add a subtle crunch and acidity.
  • Add some fresh basil or cilantro for a herbal kick.
  • A creamy, salty touch is added with crumbled feta cheese.
  • Finish it up with a properly fried or poached egg for an added protein boost.
  • Feel free to experiment with new combinations or mix and match toppings based on your taste preferences.

Step 6: Enjoy!

  • Your avocado toast is ready to eat once you've added the toppings of your choice! Admire your culinary creation for a moment, then take a pleasing bite and savor the well-balanced mix of tastes and textures.
